I'm here. I don't have a lot of time to hone and edit my experiences or thoughts for phrase by phrase re-play. But I thank you for reading this snippet. Having found an internet cafe on the evening of my second day i only hope that i can find my way here at least once a week to update this blog and send emails out to those who I'm trying to stay in contact with. I'm told that i can set up my phone so i can text or even phone people back home at a reasonable price. good thing i brought the cellular.
First day here, off the plane, really wasn't great. Jet lag, culture shock, temperature change, the endless bumping of plane with its recycled air and manila traffic with its poluted air is enough to wear ones sleep deprived system to its edges. After a nap i came round and re-instated my philipino-ness by swallowing a baloot purchased off the street. Things began to feel more like home just about that time.
Regardless, things looked better in the light of day- that day being today, though it all seems smashed into one seamless dream. It was hard to swallow that i was actually here yesterday, and today it seems to be going down all too well. Went shopping, got orientated to the organizations protocols and found the internet cafe. Nicole, my travel partner from home was just quoted to say a few minutes ago that, "there are so many people!"
I knew to expect this, but i don't suppose she did. Welcome to Manila. I hope you'll spend some time here with me if only in cyberspace. Together we make it two humans bigger.
